Mayrhofen – aka “fair commune” or the “Tyrolese Valley”, the land belongs to the Austrian Zillertal. Mayrhofen has grown from a small village, the first mention of which was dated 1200, to noisy, like a snow ant, city-resort. His ski story begins with 1879, when the rumors about the wonderful place where you can enjoy plenty of fresh Alpine air, began to spread throughout Europe. Mayrhofen is in step with the times, improving and evolving, but it has retained its identity in the market town – there felt love for traditions.
Mayrhofen – bait for a variety of people, both novice and timid skiers, and experienced, confident professionals, especially popular among young people and families with children. A significant advantage of Mayrhofen is the widespread availability of Russian-speaking personnel, which will significantly reduce your discomfort because of a possible misunderstanding of English or German languages. Besides, in this town is the Russian representative office of Austria – and this is another bonus, because there can always be contacted for any assistance and book excursions.
There are over 160 km of trails, has about 50 lifts and focused three main ski area.
First – Ahorn area for beginners, 60% tracks skiing – the so-called blue, is simple. Wonderful area for children: available and kids “route-paddling” and a huge Playground.
The Penken area medium difficulty with a predominantly red runs, but also suitable for families with children – are equipped with a station where kids can learn to ski under the supervision of experienced instructors. There is a famous slope with the intriguing title “Harakiri”, which will cause your blood to boil with adrenaline! The angle of descent in some areas it is 78 degrees, so no wonder among the Souvenirs here you can find t-shirts with the inscription “I survived harakiri”!


Finally, the Hintertux glacier. Season in Mayrhofen runs from December through April, however, on the glacier you can ski all year round. This area is for experienced skiers. Besides snowboarding here you can see a very interesting place – the ice cave with a mystical turquoise lobby.
Ski trails, toboggan slopes, ski tours, hot air balloon rides, outdoor ice rinks for skating and Curling, indoor and outdoor pools and even a water Park in Mayrhofen!
Do not forget about the cultural part of the holiday. Be sure to ride the vintage train on the Zillertal railway and see the local museums and temples. Enjoy traditional Tyrolean cuisine, very tasty and satisfying, try different cheeses from farms, dumplings, dumplings, meat dishes, drink schnapps and relax everybody’s favorite mulled wine.
